Revelation is a most extraordinary thing. Some might think of fire, end times, riders on horses, but I think of revelation much like a cool breeze after a 40 degree day. You may not even be conscious of your need of it, but when it comes you are changed.
It is a gift of God. A gift from one holy to one created. Intimate, personal, impactful if we are to receive it into our hearts.
There is love in revelation.
Like a dad watching his young daughter trying to open a box. He asks if she would like help but is refused. She tries every which way to get the lid open, near to tears and failing, finally gives it to her dad who clicks open the lock with a special twist of his hands. Ahh revelation! Knowing now how to open the lock and being able to look inside at the contents.

It can be as shocking as a bomb blast or as gentle as a blue wren flitting across a barren plain.
I think our hearts need revelation so they can grow, so they can heal, so they can receive and give and understand the depth of God’s love.
I think many of us see revelation as judgement - what would God show us or reveal to us?
We are fearful that if we were to ask God about things, ask him what he would want to show us, he would drag infront of us every bad thing we have done and why we must change because he is so disappointed with us. So we step back. We hide. We find it hard to rest in his presence. We sit still for 10 minutes and hear nothing and assume that this is proof of the fact: God doesn’t want to speak to me, I’m not that important to him, I’m too sinful for him to bother with.
I think we all need a fresh revelation of God’s love.
Who is he really? What does he really think about me?
I don’t think we can get this revelation from people (regardless of how ‘holy’ they may seem). I don’t think we can get it by sitting in a church.
This kind of revelation comes from God.
A gift from one holy to one created. Intimate, personal.
Probably won’t find it in a crowd of people.
Probably won’t find it watching TV. Probably won’t find it at a conference.
I think it all comes down to what you and God do alone together. In the secret places, do you reveal to him your true heart?
I think revelation comes when we reveal or make vunerable our heart to God.
Our heart is the most precious thing we own. God has created it and placed it there.
It encapsulates all of who we are - our love, our doubts, our fears, our sorrow, our joy.
It is our treasure. It is God’s treasure too.
He loves your heart, and when we share it - God shares his heart too.
’Draw near to me and I will draw near to you.’ James 4:8
God wants to speak to you. But speak to you in the deep places.
Speak into your heart of his love, his truth and his freedom.
The revelation of his love will change your heart. It can rock its very foundations.
It can send you on a journey that will change your heart and your life.
A life where you and God are in relationship.
A life where the extraordinary becomes tangible, because God is holding your hand.
Oh do not fear his revelation for it brings life!
Life is not easy or safe, but with God it is an adventure grounded in love.
