19: Arriving at the temple of joy

Philippa Hays

Walking down the road with Jesus toward a beautiful white temple.

It was God’s temple of joy.

It was the home in which He had always wanted me to live.

It is grand building with high arches down the length of each side.

I walk with Jesus to a simple door.

He opens the door for me to enter.

I am finally inside the temple of joy, in the room of preparation.

It is a small sunlit room with a simple table in the centre and some chairs upon which we can rest.

At the far end of this room of preparation is an opening to the temple proper.

The temple of joy.

Oh how I wanted to know about this new house, this new home!

Deep within me was such a hope.

A hope that God was redeeming me.

A hope that God could make things new and that he was committed to making me, me.

What is God’s temple of joy?

A place to delight in the unconditional love of Father God.

A place to receive from Daddy God.

A place of rest and receiving from the one who has given all,

has searched for us, found us, wooed us and brought us into his love.

And what can be our response to all of this?

An indescribable joy, mixed with a deep thankfulness and

humble gratitude at the one who loves us unconditionally.

A love I hid from.

I love I still run from.

A love that gently and persistently brings me back home to the temple of joy

where I rediscover who I really am and a love that truly gives me life.
