I have not understood it.
I do not think I have ever put it on.
I have tried so hard to do everything in my own strength to make myself worthy.
Where has my robe of righteousness been? Neatly folded away. Ready to be put on for when I felt ‘perfect’.
It explains why I have been hesitant to enter the temple of joy, feeling like I am not worthy enough.
The robe of righteousness, an amazing gift from you.
Bought at an immeasurable price: the blood of your son Jesus.
It is as white as snow, an all-purpose undergarment.
It is a garment identical to the one that Jesus wears now for we are clothed with Him.
It is an undeserved gift too hard for me to understand or fathom.
I have rejected it, believing somehow I could earn it, or that I am not worthy of it, so must wear my own.
But like the Emperor’s new clothes, I am naked and vulnerable.
What does this robe of righteousness do?
It covers our nakedness, our shame, our sin, and much more…
In wearing it, we gain from all that it represents: We are beloved, We are made righteous through Jesus’ death, we are made holy.
Anything we offer or try to do in our own strength is as filthy rags.
The robe of righteousness. It is our permission, in tangible form, for us to delight in the gift of your love Father, to delight in our relationship with you in the temple of joy.
Clothe us in YOUR robe of righteousness Lord, so that we might be ready to meet you in the temple of joy!
Our robe of righteousness It takes trust in the one who gives it to see it It takes a death in one's self to receive it It takes humility and thankfulness to wear it
What a gift from Jesus to us!
Let’s put it on.
