43: It is finished.

Philippa Hays

It is finished. A full stop. The end of things. The completion, resolution and conclusion of truly the greatest love story ever told.

A love story between a creator and his created.

Have I allowed you God to ‘finish’ things in my own life? Do I keep alive self reproach, grief, condemnation?

It is finished. What would I say if God said, “It is finished. No more with this coat of grief. Hand it over - it is now dead to you. It has neither power or comfort any longer.”

“It is finished. No more with this belief that you ‘deserve’ this coat of grief. I have finished this. You never can. Enough. Come my child.”

It is finished. What freedom!

What wonder that our sin has been paid in full.

Not a lay-by, nothing in credit. ALL done.

It is finished. No more striving. No more proving my worth, my level of repentance, trying to earn this gift, trying to earn your love.

It is finished. The curtain has been removed from the most Holy of Holies.

A new way has been made for a new kind of relationship, a new way of living.

It is finished. Why do I live as if it has not? I live as if what is complete is not enough. I live still holding onto what is dead and already gone.

It is finished. What is finished? Sin and all that it delivers: Death, pain, lies, broken relationships, hatred, grief, fear, depression, brokenness.

It is finished. But why still so much brokenness in those that know you?

It is finished in heaven. It is finished in your kingdom.

Sin is not finished yet on earth, as in grace you open time so that all my know and understand who you are and what you have done.

It is finished. A cry from the cross. A cry from the Father’s heart.

May I know this truth deep in my soul and spirit. May I live knowing that in you ‘it is finished!’

Praise be to you God our saviour!
