6: The rooms in our hearts

Philippa Hays

Our think our hearts have many rooms.

Trust enables us to open the door of each and air out the contents,

sometimes throw things away.

I am not sure if we can do this by ourselves.

It is a project of love with another.

Likewise, each door can be locked through pain caused by another, or when lies and fear erode trust, or shame and hate replaces freedom.

Sadly we learn that trusting is a risky business in this world.

To let someone in our heart is for many to invite pain and heartache.

We close the door.

When God’s spirit goes to work, he brings change and renews our heart and spirit.

He never pushes through a closed door, but will patiently knock until we open it for him to enter.

Many of us just trust him enough to enter the foyer and there He stays, but for those who embark in a relationship with Father God, who seek to know him and be known by him – ahh what adventure awaits!

I no doubt I have many closed doors still.

But I am discovering slowly some wonderful truths:

God likes me. God loves me.

That maybe, just maybe, he can be trusted in our heart of hearts.

That maybe, just maybe, we can open the door to him and let him come in.

Maybe I don't have to do life on my own anymore…
